The facility was opened by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1956 as the Sam Rea Shops; this Hollidaysburg Car Shop was the largest car repair facility of Conrail. Over the years, Hollidaysburg produced thousands of new and rebuilt cars for Conrail. In 2002, the Hollidaysburg Car Shop closed its doors.
